Social Call

Kervan’s

I’ve always heard certain people around me raving about Turkish restaurants, but as I’d never ventured in that direction before, I was always a bit hesitant to go in case I didn’t like it.  However, I was invited out with a big group to have a nice and sociable night out at Kervan’s in Edmonton, North London and I wasn’t disappointed.

Oxford City

I’m a big fan of day trips and short breaks in the UK. It may not always be possible to go abroad when you want to, but a couple of hours’ journey to an outer London destination can make you feel like you’ve left the country!

New Year, New Heights!

Last year, my friends and I went to Duck & Waffle – a place I had heard so much about from friends and work colleagues alike. I was excited. You see, when I was growing up I was so afraid of heights that I couldn’t face a place like this… Zipping you up like the speed of lightning to the 40th floor of Heron Tower, sits a restaurant called Duck & Waffle.

Gaucho!

So, I was turning a year older and wanted to go out with my girlfriends! The attraction to Gaucho was the lovely interior that I absolutely loved! I didn’t even look at the menu because once I was sold on the décor – that was it!  When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised.

The Place to be on 22nd September: The Love School Event!

As one of the event’s presenters wisely said, there is a school for everything. There’s makeup school, fashion school, cookery school, driving school and the list goes on…but, if we had a school that covered the various matters of love and relationships many of us would have avoided the past hurts that sometimes still affect us today. If you are like me and loved the first Iron Man, but was disappointed about Iron Man 2, then you’ll thank the Avengers Assemble for making Iron Man 3 a worthwhile watch!

To be honest, after the second rendition of the film and how much of a flop it was, I vowed never to watch another Iron Man movie again. BUT when Tony Stark saved the day in the Avengers with this charm, wit and Jarvis in toe, I knew that Iron Man 3 could only be a hit!

Nothing to Lose Book Launch hits the UK!

Thirteen years ago, I was on the brink of a secret breakdown. I was a depressed 17-year old who had just returned from a holiday from hell where my family were torn apart over a financial dispute. Suffering from insomnia and spiritual attacks, I often hated going to sleep because the dark scared me and I was convinced that a poltergeist had invaded my room. Sinister? It was all too real for me and I couldn’t see a way out so I entertained ways to escape my taking my life just as my father had done where he blew himself away on Pembury Estate in Hackney. When my mum attempted suicide thrice and my sister, Mel admitted to cutting herself to feel better, I was on the edge too but something kept telling me to hold on one more day…

My Old Dutch

A stone’s throw from Holborn station is a delightful little restaurant called ‘My Old Dutch.’ My husband and I were in the city on a visit when we spotted the sign glaring out of the window; ‘Monday Madness! All pancakes £5!’* As I’m prone to a little madness myself, we went to investigate.

The Mango Room

I thought Camden was a strange place to find a decent Caribbean restaurant to be honest (forgive my prejudice), but I went on recommendation with family for my mum’s birthday.
